BEIJING (AFP) - Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China , threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday.Girls... beware!!!

In the latest example of potentially harmful Chinese-made products, rubber hair bands have been found in local markets and beauty salons in Dongguan and Guangzhou cities in southern Guangdong province, China Daily newspaper said.Girls... beware!!!

‘These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well ... threatening the health of local people,’ it said.Girls... beware!!!

Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.

‘People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,’ the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying.

A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said.

A government official was quoted as saying recycling condoms was illegal.

China ’s manufacturing industry has been repeatedly tarnished this year by a string of scandals involving shoddy or dangerous goods made for both domestic and foreign markets.

In response, it launched a public relations blitz this summer aimed at playing up efforts to strengthen monitoring systems.

Yucks! China needs to understand the concept of recycling in correct sense. Simple things like bands are also not spared. Boycotting local Chinese products is the only solution.

It is hard to believe that used condoms are recycled into hair bands. China’s recycling tradition is cetainly turning into a nightmare.

While condoms are made to safeguard one from sexually transmitted diseases, hair bands made out of used condoms is certainly a potential threat to spread those sexually-transmitted diseases among young women, who are otherwise safe.

It must the latest to add to the long list of potentially harmful Chinese-made products identified such as toys, tooth paste, pet food etc., by the international community. This will further tarnish the image of products made in china.

The one who “originally” thought about recycling a “used condom”, what kind of a person he or she could be? Sick minded? What do you think?

This is okay as long as latex becomes a quick biodegradable thing. I don't think viruses will survive that long undergoing such harsh treatments during the process of recycling. Don't be alarmists please. Girls, you are safe. Happy lovemaking. But make sure your partner is inside the sheath when inside you.

This is rumour and this is spam. This is not even an original post. I am trashing it. This is one of the worst and misleading posts I ever came across. Rudolf is right. Most of the condoms end up in the septic tank despite advisories against flushing them through the commode. Does the soil cleaners pick them up manually to recycle them after vacuuming the tanks? Bullshit.

This is yet another anti-China propaganda. People from the West or enemy countries such as India must be applauded that their imaginations have no bounds and they have the graphic designers to back them up. Chances are that even if the author of this crap gives me a fellatio till I come in her mouth after having a fuck session with one of the syphilitic whores of Mumbai without washing my dick, she won't catch the disease whose virus might be present.
